The Book of Na'Lon

or rather, Inane Ramblings of an Expatriot

Pot noodle slave
I slaved over dinner tonight. I really did. Chopped veg, boiled soba, measured and weighed ingredients. It was supposed to turn into teriyaki style noodles.

However, the results tasted like pot noodle. *wails*

It didn't help the tastiness of dinner any that I'd put in tofu, which I don't really like. It then turned out the Marquis doesn't really like it either.

Plus I just knew that that much soy sauce and vegetable stock was going to be rather salty.

Next time I will trust my instincts. We shall have teriyaki style prawns with miso rather than soy and stock.

Yes, but it was hot and filling and now we will drink lots and lots of fluids ('cos of the salt) including maybe some of our sake, and we did find out that tofu cubes are 'heat cubes': the opposite of ice cubes in that they give off heat but like ice cubes they melt away with no tatse ;-)

Tofu is one of those things that everyone feels they ought to eat but often isn't actually very nice.

The exception I have found is beech smoked tofu, which can be found in some supermarkets with the veggie meat substitute type things. That's quite yummy.

It's weird how sometimes a recipe is quite horrid (rather than just 'not to taste' when made. It makes you wonder whether people actually test all the recipes they publish.
